They Should Really Call It "Scottish Spring Soap" (Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - Edinburgh, Scotland)

Disclaimer: I haven't slept since Monday night.

Ok, so the big news is this: I did not freak out or die on my flight, I only giggled insanely at one person for talking with an accent, and it's not quite as rainy and freezing as they would have you believe. There is too much greatness to cram into a tiny little entry, and I need to sleep soon as we will be climbing Arthur's Seat (look it up... its going to be a beating) tomorrow morning. But here are some highlights:
1. The soap should not be called "Irish Spring" because I will tell you this for free: I had the best shower of my life in Scotland today, and not just because it was 2 day's worth of makeup showering. The water is just... magical... my shampoo has never rinsed so easily, and the scots have temperature adjusters with EXACT NUMBERS written. Take that, America (whom I still love more dearly than Scotland, I will say.)
2. I was forced to use the bathroom in the dark today. Yes, that's right. Apparently light switches are outside of the bathroom in Scotland to avoid electrocution via floor water, and also you have to let them 'warm up' first. Which I did not know. Until after I had already played a game of "three blind mice."
3. I am quite literally the hunchback of Edinburgh. At least I was, until I looked in the mirror. I don't believe in the fanny pack, so I got an under the shirt pack, and wore it on the back instead (as a sort of tribute to the immortal genius that is "Criss-Cross"...Sarah, that's for you), but after I realized that people thought I had elephantitus, this method has been replaced.
4. Grilled Cheeses are called "Toasties" here! Tee hee! And warning: don't ever order the lemonade, it isn't what you think. Unless you enjoy sprite and dishwashing detergent mixed.
5. The Labor Party is alive and well, apparently! Found the coolest little independent bookstore and their massive collection of extremely socialist publications, in addition to their dog which was the biggest ham i've ever seen.
Time to hit the old dusty trail... Hiking tomorrow... goodie gumdrops.
